EXAMPLE OF HORTATORY EXPOSITION TEXT

The Importance of Reading

Reading habit is poor among Indonesians because most people haven’t realized the importance of reading. Reading is very important activity to transform knowledge and technology. By reading, one knows the world. He or she will understand what he doesn’t see by himself or herself. The lines of the paragraphs in an article contain pieces of knowledge. The knowledge is needed to improve the quality of human’s life. Technology transformation from other country can only be done by reading a lot various sources of literature. Valuable books in libraries and bookstores mean nothing if they aren’t read.

Secondly, by reading we can get a lot of news and information about something happening in the world. When we know that something, we will try to get or do the thing. For example, a businessman who always follows latest information or news, will know what to do in his/her business. He will make a good decision to make a transaction.

Another reason, reading can give us pleasure. When we are tired, we read books, novel, comics, newspaper, or magazine in some genres. It can make us relaxed.

And the last, reading can also take us to other parts of the world. For example, by reading a book about Irian Jaya, we may feel we are really sitting in the jungles not at home in our rooms.

From the facts above, a nation-wide effective campaign of the importance of reading by all components of the nation should be done, facilitated by the government, to face the tighter competition. The world has forced globalization. Those people with little knowledge will be left behind. To speed up the better change in this country, a good reading habit is really important.

Retelling Short Story

Evening Dinner With a Father
A son took his old father to a restaurant for an evening dinner.  Father being very old and weak, while eating, dropped food on his shirt and trousers.  Other diners watched him in disgust while his son was calm.
After he finished eating, his son who was not at all embarrassed, quietly took him to the washroom, wiped the food particles, removed the stains, combed his hair and fitted his spectacles firmly.  When they came out, the entire restaurant was watching them in dead silence, not able to grasp how someone could embarrass themselves publicly like that.  The son settled the bill and started walking out with his father.
At that time, an old man amongst the diners called out to the son and asked him, “Don’t you think you have left something behind?”.
The son replied, “No sir, I haven’t”.
The old man retorted, “Yes, you have!  You left a lesson for every son and hope for every father”.
The restaurant went silent.

Story telling.

One day, the father was doing some work and his son came and asked some question to him. “Dad, how much do you make an hour?” The father got mad and said “That’s none of your business, why do you ask such a thing like that?” Then, the son replied to him, “I just want to know, Dad. Just tell me, how much you make an hour?” So, the father told to his son about make five hundred per hour.
The son got disappointed, he replied with his head down, then looking up and said to his father. “Dad, may I please borrow your three hundred?” The father said with anger, “If the only reason you asked about my pay is so that you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or other nonsense, then march yourself to your room and go to bed! Think! Why you are being so selfish. I work hard every day and don’t like this childish behavior!”
Then, the son quietly went to his room and shut the door. In other side, the father sat down and started to think again about the son’s questions. After about an hour or so, the father had calmed down and started to think positive, “Oh, maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that three hundred.. and he really didn’t ask for money very often.” Think the father. So the father went to the little boy’s room.
“I have been thinking. Maybe I was too hard on you earlier” Said the father. “It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you.” Then, the father gave three hundred to his son. The little boy sat straight up, smiling to his father. “Thank you, Dad!!” Then, the son reaching under his pillow, he pulled some crippled up notes. The father seeing that his son already had money,  started to get angry again. The son slowly counted out his money, then looked up at his father.
“Why do you want money if you already had some? The father grumbled. “Because I didn’t have enough.”  The son replied. “Daddy, I have five hundred now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.” Father was dumbstruck.
